Physalis franchetii or Chinese Lantern as it is commonly named, is a unique plant that produces delicate white flowers in the summer that transform to bright pumpkin orange “paper” calyces that resemble Chinese lanterns in the fall. It’s these lanterns that make this plant so special as they add lots of fall interest.
